Let me start out by stating the maybe not-so-obvious at first: There is NO evidence from science that children learning two languages from birth are delayed in their language development. So if there are two languages in your house hold, go ahead and speak both regularly with your baby right away. While bilingual children go through a period where they mix both languages, this is NOT a period of confusion or something that indicates some sort of delay. It is simply the normal process of learning two languages at the same time, and they are grabbing things – sounds, words, structures – from the language they know better. I do that too even now – some things come quicker in English, others in German, so when I talk you may find some English word or phrase in my German and vice versa.
